After
facing all the hardships during the colonial rule we finally got the taste of freedom.
It was like falling of cool drizzle of shower in the month of August after experiencing
the scorching heats of the hot summer in the months of June and July. The
prophecy of independence came to the people’s mind few years before we actually
achieved it. Nevertheless it is like better late than never. Freedom is the birth
right for every citizen of this beautiful country called India. Representing
one country’s culture and heritage in front of the world is a matter of great
dignity and proud. Not only the language or the food give identity to a person but
also the dress or the attire makes a person more distinctive from others. India
is a country of many cultures, languages, foods, looks and off course the land
of indigenous ethnic wears and each represents the core value of ‘Indianness’.
From
Gandhian era of fashion to Bollywood fashion, from 80s French one-piece wear to
radical wear whether it is an Indian style of fashion evolution or the
westernised fashion, India have witnessed all the phrases of fashion evolution.
Indian fashion industry has also participated in People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals (PETA) movement. It gives right to the animals to live
freely and they are not born to die for our entertainment or for our fashion.
Once
the South African leader and freedom fighter Nelson Mandela said that there is
no easy walk to freedom anywhere, and many of us will have to pass through the
valley of the shadow of death again and again before we reach the mountaintop
of our desires. So after reaching to that pinnacle one can find it difficult to
stay in forever. Poverty, hunger, illiteracy are the main scars that can push
us to death. Only inclusive growth can bless us and pull up from that fall. Thanks
to God that we have partially come out from this fall thus India have all the
right to enjoy fashion styles.
Historically,
Indian men and women wear has evolved from simple Langotas and loincloths to
intricate costumes. Indian cities are the carrier of western clothing fashion
style and it is common and uniformly worn by people of all echelon. Great diversity
in terms of weaves, fibres, colours and material of clothing India have made
all of us proud over the centuries. Indian women clothes- Saree, Ghagra, Choli
or Lehenga Choli, Salwar Kameez, Churidar, Kurta, Pattu Pavadai have the legacy
of Indian cultural tradition and for men wear it is the Dhoti-Panjabi, Lungi, Sherwani
are the bearer of the traditional look and identity. Diversity in usage of colour
in clothes could be seen in India for example colour white, which indicates
mourning in Hindu women fraternity, while Parsis and Christians wear white in
weddings.
The
word freedom carries different meaning to different people and what a man finds
his freedom in day to day life can be different for a life experience of a woman.
When a housewife gets an evening leave from kitchen and goes to a restaurant
for dinner with her husband brings a new meaning of freedom to her. For a kid
if he or she gets one day holiday from school gives him or her great joy of
freedom. A soldier can see freedom in a battle field after defeating his
enemies. An actor or an actress only feels free when he or she acts in front of
the camera.
How
much difference you can bring in the country in your lifetime should be the
main concern than only getting concerned in spending your day to day life and those
who able to bring changes to the country without concerning his or her life is
still remembered and worshiped by the people of this country. India’s tri colours
always remind us about the three essential mantra of life- sacrifice, peace and
bravery. Jai Hind.
